A gas mask in 1:72 scale is a scenic accessory for a diorama. It is not a model kit but a small item of gear that fills out the back area of a scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
The accessory belongs among the scenic small things for dioramas and display scenes. It is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle — it is a stand-alone object, added to a scene as gear set aside: on a box, on a vehicle seat, on a hook in a workshop or beside a figure. In 1:72 scale this is a very small part, so count on tweezers and good light.
Gear set aside is one of the most effective ways to give a scene a human presence even where there is no figure at all. A mask laid on a box or hung in a corner suggests that someone has just left the place. It comes into its own in workshop and hangar scenes, in vehicle interiors and in the back area of a field post. The accessory is not tied to a particular kit and combines with any model in 1:72 scale.
Cut the sprue gate remnants off, level the faces and degrease the surface. Lay down a thin base and then the base shade — dark gray, olive or brown according to the scene. Rubber and canvas look best completely matte; a sheen would give the casting away. The detail is brought out by a dark wash and a very fine dry brush on the edges. If the mask has a strap, set it a shade lighter, so that the shape separates. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied with a pin, so that the glue does not get onto the surrounding areas. Work in a well-ventilated room.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
