The Leopard 2 is a German main battle tank and one of the most successful Western tanks of its generation. The 2A4 version of the 1980s and early 1990s was built in the largest numbers and became the mainstay of the German army and of many others; many countries took it from surplus stocks. The tank carries a 120 mm smoothbore gun, composite armor and a powerful drivetrain that gives it high mobility. The angular welded turret with its flat faces is characteristic.
In 1:72 scale the parts are small, so work with a sharp knife and thin cement for plastic. Finish the running gear and the tracks separately. For European vehicles the three-color NATO camouflage (green, brown, black) is the right choice; pick out the panel lines and details gently with a wash and apply dust and mud pigments to the running gear. The smaller scale also suits building a group of vehicles or a diorama.
