This set from the Polish brand Master contains metal parts for building the nose antennas of the FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 airborne radar in 1:72 scale. The manufacturer's designation states that it was equipment of night fighters, among them the Bf 110 and the Ju 88. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory. The antennas are made up of an array of thin booms and dipoles, that is, a shape that is cast oversized in injection-molded plastic and bends during the build.
The FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 was a German airborne radar for night interception, working in a considerably lower frequency band than the earlier types, which gave it greater range but called for large antennas. These were mounted on the nose of the aircraft as an array of horizontal and vertical dipoles on booms. Aerodynamically it was a considerable burden, but the installation fundamentally changed the silhouette of the aircraft, which is the most striking element on a model too.
Fit the antennas only after the painting and varnishing of the fuselage are finished, when you no longer have to handle the model. Drill the holes in the nose according to the drawing in the building instructions of the base kit, best of all using a template of paper tape, so that the spacings are right. Try the parts dry and check them from the front and from above, because every dipole off the axis shows in the result. They are glued with super glue applied with the tip of a wire, not from the bottle. The metal array has the advantage over plastic that once built it will take being gently straightened with the fingers. Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer for metal, and apply the paint as thinly as possible, so that the dipoles do not coarsen.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
