A sheet of 1:72 decals for a Greek F-16 in the colorful finish from the 2022 meet of tiger squadrons. The host of that edition was Greece itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
Greece is among the largest European operators of the F-16, and its aircraft have been through several waves of upgrades, so machines from different production blocks can be met side by side at one base. Operations over the Aegean Sea are intensive and the fighters show it in their wear, their worn panels and their faded gray paint.
In 2022 the hosting of the annual meet of tiger squadrons fell to the Greek base of Araxos in the northwest of the Peloponnese. On such an occasion the host tends to have the greatest motivation to show itself, and so one of the machines was given a coloring that has nothing in common with ordinary operational camouflage. The combination of colorful artwork and an otherwise entirely operational aircraft is exactly what makes such models interesting.
Colorful artwork on a gray base makes one particular demand: the colors of the decal have to stay saturated even where darker camouflage shows through beneath them. Before application, therefore, check whether it is worth underlaying the spot with a light shade beforehand, and by no means be sparing with the gloss varnish, on which a decal slides better.
Once finished, it is worth unifying the surface with semi-gloss varnish. Special machines tend to be freshly resprayed, so a completely matte finish would look unnatural on them.
