An injection-molded plastic model of the American carrier fighter Grumman F-14A Tomcat in the Iranian form (IRIAF — the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force) in 1:72 scale from the production of the Japanese brand FineMolds. It is a limited edition with specific decals for Iranian machines. The kit uses a finely detailed tooling with a well worked cockpit and movable elements; the box contains plastic parts, clear glazing, decals and assembly instructions.
The F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter with variable-geometry wings, developed for the US Navy as a long-range interceptor. Iran was the only foreign operator of this type and obtained its Tomcats before 1979; it fielded them in a later armed conflict as well. The aircraft was famous for its long range, its powerful radar and its ability to carry long-range guided missiles. Characteristic are the wings, which sweep back and change their angle according to flight speed.
Glue the plastic parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic; the fine FineMolds parts will appreciate careful work. Mask the glazing before spraying and put the mechanism of the variable-geometry wings together according to the instructions. Apply a base coat (a primer) before painting and spray with an airbrush; Iranian schemes tend to differ from the American ones — go by the instructions enclosed and by reliable color references, and emphasize the panels with a wash.
