A decal set in 1:72 scale from the Hungarian brand SBS Model, devoted to the machines of the Finnish fighter pilot Hans Wind. It is the second volume of a series, following on from an earlier set on the same subject. The package holds decals, not parts of a model — you use the set on a kit of the matching type of aircraft in the same scale. SBS Model has long focused on Finnish and Hungarian markings, which are not in the ordinary sheets supplied in boxes.
Hans Wind was among the most successful fighter pilots of the Finnish Air Force in the Second World War. He flew the types that Finland operated at the time, that is an American fighter monoplane and later a German fighter delivered during the war. Finnish fighter aircraft carried striking national insignia and individual markings for each machine, which makes them a rewarding subject for modelers who want something in a display case other than standard British and German schemes.
The base has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise air is caught under the carrier film and the decal starts to silver. In 1:72 scale the motifs are small, so cut them out close to the artwork with a sharp knife and handle them with a damp brush rather than tweezers — metal tears the film easily. After soaking, let the decal rest on a cloth, dampen the area with a decal softener and bring the decal into position. Draw the surplus water off with a cloth from the center toward the edges and let it dry without being touched. Finally go over the whole model with a matte or semi-matte varnish.
The package holds decals, not parts of a model. The kit, glue, paints and varnishes are not included.
