The He 162A-2 kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker AZ model is an injection-molded plastic model to be assembled and painted. The boxing is aimed at the postwar period, that is at the machines that ended up outside their original service after 1945. The model is small and the build is simple, so it also works as an addition to a display cabinet of jet firsts.
The Heinkel He 162 was a single-seat jet fighter from the end of the Second World War. In design terms it was an exceptionally simple machine with one BMW 003 jet engine mounted on the spine of the fuselage, a pair of vertical surfaces at the tips of the horizontal tail and a substantial proportion of wood in the structure. The A-2 version carried two 20 mm cannons and the pilot had an ejection seat at his disposal, which was still a novelty at the time. The machine saw only minimal combat use and a few examples have survived in museum collections.
The model is small, so pay attention to how the cockpit seats and to the exact fit of the engine nacelle — that is where single-seat jets usually need the most work. Finish the pilot's compartment before you close the fuselage. Masking foil or liquid mask works well on the canopy, because the framing is fine. Spray in thin coats with an airbrush, lay down a gloss coat compatible with the paint used under the decals and finally tie the surface together with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
