An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Special Hobby brand. The model represents one of the last German jet fighters of the Second World War. The box holds plastic sprues including clear parts and decals for period machines; the exact contents are given on the packaging.
The Heinkel He 162, nicknamed Spatz (sparrow), came about at the very end of the war under the Volksjäger, or people's fighter, program. It was a small, light aircraft powered by a single jet engine placed unusually on top of the fuselage, with wooden elements in its structure because of the shortage of metals. It saw only marginal combat use, yet it is among the most interesting and technically boldest types of its era. Its compact shape and the high-set engine make the model an unusual and attractive piece.
Assemble the small cockpit and landing gear parts carefully, and mask the glazing before the finish goes on. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and sand the joints back. Late-war German camouflage goes on best with an airbrush; fine washes and restrained weathering of the exhaust staining at the engine give it character.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
