A resin BMW 003 jet engine for the Heinkel He 162 in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker CMK. The engine sat on the spine of the aircraft, so it is fully on show on a model.

A resin set from the Czech manufacturer CMK that adds a finely rendered BMW 003 jet engine to a model of the Heinkel He 162 in 1:72 scale. On this aircraft it is an exceptionally rewarding accessory: the engine is mounted on top of the fuselage, so an exposed unit or open covers are visible from every angle and the model gains in interest at once.
The Heinkel He 162 was a single-engine jet fighter developed in extreme haste at the end of the Second World War. The design relied on wood and on simple production so that the machine could be built even as manufacturing collapsed. The powerplant was the BMW 003, a jet engine with an axial compressor. Its thrust was modest, but the concept itself already pointed the way postwar aviation took.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces. Paint the engine in parts before assembly. Build the metal surfaces on a dark base, then apply the metallic shades and bring out the differences between the materials with gentle toning. Work a dark wash into the gaps and tone the heat-stressed parts around the nozzle toward blue and brown tints.
The set is an accessory for a kit and does not replace the kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
