An injection-molded plastic kit of the He 162B-3 in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker AZ model. The Volksjäger 46 series is devoted to projects that were not realized: a machine in this form never came into being and was neither built nor flown. Take the model, therefore, as a reconstruction of a design and its color schemes as a design idea rather than a documented historical state.
The starting type was the small He 162 jet aircraft of mixed construction, that is, with a metal fuselage and wooden sections, with the engine mounted above the fuselage and with a twin vertical tail. The designs of the B series were to remove the main weaknesses of the basic type, above all the short range and the limited fuel load, by lengthening the fuselage, modifying the wing and using more powerful propulsion. Development stopped at the stage of studies, though. The number 46 in the name of the series is a convention used for projects set in a hypothetical year 1946.
Short-run molds reward patience: dry-fit the parts, sand the mating surfaces again as needed and glue with a thin cement in small sections. Seat the engine nacelle on the back of the fuselage on the axis, so that the model does not look twisted, and check the twin vertical tail from behind. The wooden sections of the real machines of the series had a coarser surface and a different coloring than the metal ones, so if you want to suggest this contrast, a fine grading of the shade while spraying suits well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
