1:72 HMS Queen Elizabeth R08 Type 2 Base offers a second section of the deck of the British aircraft carrier as a finished surface for a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This sheet is a printed surface on which a finished model is stood. It is not a kit and these are not decals. The motif grows out of the flight deck of the British aircraft carrier with the tactical designation R08, and the Type 2 variant brings a different view from its sister Type 1, so the two can be placed side by side when displaying.
The aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth has served the Royal Navy since 2017 and is conceived for machines with a short takeoff and vertical landing. The deck therefore has neither catapults nor arrestor wires. A ski-jump ramp dominates the bow and the ship has two separate island superstructures, a solution you will not meet anywhere else in the world.
The forward island controls the navigation of the ship, while the rear one serves the flight operations and the whole deck can be seen from it. The sister ship Prince of Wales with the tactical designation R09 has the same arrangement, so the motif will also serve builders who want to display machines from her deck. The hull of both ships was made in sections in several British shipyards and was put together only at Rosyth.
It is a practical choice for modelers who want an immediately usable background for a helicopter or a carrier aircraft in 1:72. It saves time for anyone who does not want to build a base board, fill it and paint it, and yet would like to present a model in the setting the subject belongs to.
