An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet ground-attack aircraft Ilyushin Il-2M3 Shturmovik in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. The model of the easy-build line has the lower assembly with the wings and the horizontal tail surfaces molded in one piece, and a multi-part cockpit and rear gunner's station are inserted into the upper part of the fuselage. The package contains fine engraved lines, the landing gear and a one-piece three-blade propeller with a separate spinner.
The Il-2 Shturmovik was an armored ground-attack aircraft intended for attacks on ground targets. The cockpit and the engine were protected by an armored bathtub which was a load-bearing part of the airframe, thanks to which the aircraft could take a great many hits. It was precisely for this toughness that it earned the nickname the flying tank. The M3 version was a two-seater with a defensive machine gun for the rear gunner and was usually armed with cannons and unguided rockets. The Il-2 is among the most produced combat aircraft in history.
Secure the joints with thin cement for plastic. Apply a filler primer before painting, which will pick out the engraving. An airbrush is suitable for the Soviet green and brown camouflage with a blue underside. Mask the cockpit glazing before painting. Thanks to its large parts the model is a good basis for practicing the patina of mud and dust effects typical of the Eastern Front.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
