The fourth sheet of the Israeli series concentrates on the ambulance version of the M113 carrier with the Israel Defense Forces. It is tied to the operations in Lebanon in 1978 and 1982 and will round a finished model out with medical markings.
The ambulance M113 grows out of the ordinary tracked armored personnel carrier, but its interior is adapted for carrying the wounded on stretchers and for the attendant personnel. From the outside it is recognized mainly by its missing armament and by the medical markings on the sides and on the roof, which are to be legible from above as well. In Israeli service this carrier was given a name of its own and was used in many versions; the ambulance was among those that rode with the fighting units right up to the front line.
Medical insignia have conspicuous colors on a contrasting field, which is why imperfect seating shows on them immediately. Cut them out exactly along the outline of the printed area and, before laying them down, check that the base is nowhere grainy. Measure the roof design out in advance against the hatches, so that it does not sit askew. Then grant the finished vehicle only moderate weathering, so that the markings stay clearly legible.
