Omask 1:72: red star masks for the Soviet Yak-1 fighter. The national markings are airbrushed straight into the paint. Intended for the Zvezda kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Masking cutouts in the shape of the Soviet five-pointed star, thanks to which the national marking is sprayed on in paint instead of applying a decal. They are stuck onto the finished paint, sprayed over, and once removed a marking with a crisp edge remains that is part of the surface itself. It has nowhere to break over panel lines or over the ripple of the covering, and it leaves no glossy rectangle of decal film behind. The target kit is the one from Zvezda.
The Yak-1 was the first production fighter of Alexander Yakovlev's design bureau and in the first two years of the war it carried much of the weight of the fighting on the Eastern Front. The fuselage frame was made of welded steel tubes, the wing was wooden and part of the surfaces were fabric-covered, which allowed production even in factories with no experience of all-metal work. It was powered by a Klimov V12 engine, and a cannon fired between its cylinders through the propeller hub. Later versions received a cut-down rear fuselage and a teardrop canopy with a substantially better view to the rear.
Red paint covers poorly over a dark green or gray base and goes on dirty if applied directly. Spray a light base under it, let it dry and only then add the final shade in two or three thin coats. Peel the stencil off while it is still warm, not after several days.
The contents are the masking material, nothing more.
