An injection-molded plastic kit of the Type 74 main battle tank of the Japanese ground forces in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model is made up of several sprues, the hull is handled as a one-piece tub and the road wheels are fitted separately. The tracks are supplied as flexible (vinyl) ones. A decal sheet for several marking variants is part of the package. The execution matches the maker's modern standard in this scale and suits a collection of postwar armor.
The Type 74 was the main battle tank of the Japanese ground forces, brought into service in the middle of the 1970s as the successor to the older Type 61. It carried a 105 mm gun and its characteristic feature was hydropneumatic suspension, which allowed the hull to be tilted forwards, backwards and to the sides and the elevation and traverse to be matched to broken terrain. The crew was four men.
Assemble and test the running gear and the wheels first, before you close the hull. We recommend thin cement for plastic, a primer and spraying with an airbrush. For the patina use dark washes into the recesses and pigments for mud and dust effects on the lower hull and the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
