An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet JS-3 (IS-3) heavy tank with the experimental 122 mm BL-9 gun, in 1:72 scale. The model is released by the manufacturer Trumpeter. The package contains plastic parts for the hull and the characteristic hemispherical turret, the running gear and a decal sheet. The smaller 1:72 scale is rewarding for collectors and for dioramas.
The JS-3 (IS-3) was a Soviet heavy tank of the very end of the Second World War, famous for the steeply sloped frontal armor of its hull in the shape of a pike nose and for its flat hemispherical turret. This configuration offered high ballistic protection. The version with the BL-9 gun was an attempt to fit a more capable 122 mm gun with a longer barrel and better penetrating power than the standard armament.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Assemble and paint the running gear before the hull is closed. The rounded surfaces of the turret call for careful cleaning up of the parting seams. After a primer, lay the Soviet green down with an airbrush; a dark wash will bring out the cast texture of the turret and pigments will add mud and dust effects to the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
