1:72 Ki-61 II Kai is a photo-etched accessory set intended for a plastic kit you have already bought, not a model of its own. The metal parts add to the Japanese fighter the detail that injected plastic cannot manage.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched accessory set in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Brengun. The set is prepared for one particular plastic kit, RS Models 92104, and does not make up a model on its own. The point of photo-etched parts is simple: a mold for injected plastic cannot cast a part thinner than roughly half a millimeter, whereas etched sheet runs in tenths. Parts that should be made of thin material on the real aircraft therefore finally look thin on a model as well.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 was a Japanese fighter powered by a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine, which was an exception among Japanese fighters of the day, as most used radials. The Ki-61-II Kai version received a more powerful engine and a revised airframe with larger lifting surfaces and a reworked vertical tail surface. The engine proved difficult to produce, so this version was built in limited numbers.
Stiffer photo-etched metal can be warmed briefly over a flame before forming and left to cool; the metal softens and the fold then holds without springing back. Work on a light surface so that small parts do not escape you, and keep the cut-off pieces of the fret until the model is finished, as they come in handy as material for small fills. Fit the instrument panels and the seat belts into the fuselage before you join it, because once it is closed you cannot reach them.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
