The Koolhoven F.K.58 is one of the least known fighters of the Second World War, and yet it has a remarkable story. A Dutch factory designed it to an order from France, which urgently needed to make up its numbers, and the first machine flew in the summer of 1938. It combined a radial engine, a cantilever low wing and a fairly slender fuselage. Only a few dozen were built, and some of them ended up flying with units made up of Polish pilots, who defended French airspace on them in 1940. They took part in the fighting only briefly, which makes them all the more interesting as a subject for a model.
The cockpit of this aircraft has several divided panes and a narrow rear section where tape is hard to shape. The pre-cut outlines are adapted to one particular model, the product of Azur in 1:72 scale. The outer surface of the glazing is covered; the inner side is dealt with by the builder, for instance with a piece of moistened paper.
Apply the panes in the middle of the cockpit first, and only then the rounded ends, where seating them takes the most work. Run a smooth tool over every edge, whether a toothpick or the rounded end of a pair of tweezers. Choose the paint thin; on small cockpits two light coats are enough for full coverage. After removal check the frame against the light; small imperfections can be touched up with a brush. The package holds masking material only.
