An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian medium tank M11/39 in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer IBG Models. This is a new mold, which brings fine engraving and respectable detail of the hull and the running gear to the small scale. According to the manufacturer, the package also holds a photo-etched fret for the finest parts. The model is a rewarding addition to a collection as well as to a smaller diorama.
The M11/39 was an Italian medium tank of the late nineteen thirties with an unusual arrangement of its armament. The main gun of 37 mm caliber was fixed in the hull with a limited field of fire, while a pair of machine guns of 8 mm caliber sat in the rotating turret. Only about a hundred were built, and the tanks were used mainly in North Africa at the beginning of the Second World War, where they soon became obsolete. Thin armor and a barely movable main weapon quickly put them at a disadvantage against British tanks, and yet the M11/39 remains an interesting record of early Italian development of armored vehicles and a rewarding subject for collectors.
Use thin cement for plastic and separate the small parts at this scale very carefully. Finish and paint the running gear and the underside of the hull before the surrounding parts cover them. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting; an airbrush is ideal. A fine panel line wash and dust pigments on the running gear suit the Italian sand shade.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
