Brengun works on small accessories that give a model credibility in details an ordinary kit does not contain. This item covers the underwing illumination flares designated M26 in 1:72 scale, and according to the name there are two pieces in the package. They find a use under the wings or the fuselage of a finished model, or in a ramp scene among other equipment.
M26 is the designation of an American aerial illumination flare dropped from an aircraft, used to light up the area beneath the airplane during night flights. Structurally it is a slender cylindrical body hung on ordinary racks, so on a model it behaves much like a drop tank or a bomb. What makes it interesting for a modeler is that it appears on night and reconnaissance missions, that is where the configuration of the aircraft differs from the standard daytime one.
The parts are slim and break easily, so separate them with a sharp knife over a cutting surface and work with tweezers. Sand the surfaces, degrease them and spray them with a primer. Use cyanoacrylate glue to join them; ordinary polystyrene cement will not hold here. Illumination flares are usually painted simply, with a crisp division between the color bands; it is cleaner to mask the bands than to paint them with a brush. At the end a very light wash is enough to bring out the beading and the suspension lugs.
