This is not a model of a tank but a set of replacement parts for a finished plastic kit. The contents are turned metal barrels of both weapons of the American medium tank M3 in its late production form, that is the longer 75mm M3 gun in the hull mount and the 37mm M6 gun in the turret. The set is released by the Polish brand MASTER, which has long devoted itself to turned barrels and small tubular parts.
The longer barrel of the late production is a slender and conspicuously projecting element, and it is on it that the weaknesses of injection-molded plastic show up most. The part comes about from two halves, it carries a mold seam along its length, and in sanding that seam down both the circular cross-section and the constant diameter are lost. The muzzle tends to be solid or merely suggested, and a longer plastic barrel also sags or twists easily, which on a tank is apparent immediately. A turned metal part solves both at once: it is straight, concentric along its whole length and its muzzle is genuinely drilled. The stiffness of metal guarantees that the barrel will stay straight even after years in a cabinet and will survive ordinary handling of the model.
Cut the plastic barrels off close to the mount and true up the holes with a drill, so that the metal parts sit concentrically and at the same angle. Degrease the metal and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic will not join it. Before painting, apply a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint comes away from the smooth surface. On the longer barrel, check the alignment against the hull before the glue hardens, as a small deviation is very apparent on a finished model.
