This item is not a kit and not a spare part, but a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for modelers. It serves to cover the cockpit glazing during spraying, so that the frames get the color of the airframe with a crisp, straight edge while the transparent areas stay clean. The masks are applied to the clear part, the paint is sprayed around them and once it has dried they are peeled off. The masks are cut for the Meng kit.
The Manshu Ki-98 was a Japanese project for a single-seat combat aircraft from the end of the Second World War. It had an unusual layout with twin tail booms and a pusher propeller behind the pilot, thanks to which the nose stayed free for heavy armament. Work on the machine never reached a first flight, though, and the partly built prototype did not survive the end of the war. For a modeler it is therefore a subject from the circle of Japanese projects that never reached series production, and a finished model looks all the more interesting on a shelf for it.
First wash and degrease the clear part, otherwise the mask will not adhere. Lift the individual pieces off the backing with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick or a wooden stick, above all in the corners and on the curves. Spray the paint in several thin coats, so that it does not creep under the edge of the mask. The proven procedure is to spray the interior color first, then the primer and finally the exterior shade. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried, while the layer of paint is still flexible; should the edge pull, score it with a sharp scalpel.
