New Ware 1:72 Mask Harrier FRS1 and FA2 EXPERT

A mask set for the model of the carrier-based airplane Sea Harrier in the FRS.1 and FA2 versions in 1:72 scale. The masks are pre-cut and self-adhesive, so cutting tape by hand to follow the frames is done away with. The set is cut to the shape of the parts of the particular Airfix kit.

What the EXPERT step means

New Ware marks its sets with the BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT steps, and the step expresses the extent, not the difficulty. BASIC is the basis aimed at the main glazing, while EXPERT is the widest version, which adds further masking elements to it. If you want masking beyond the cockpit prepared in advance as well, EXPERT is the right choice. The particular list of elements can be found on the packaging of the set.

The real subject

The Sea Harrier is a single-seat carrier-based airplane with short takeoff and vertical landing, on which the vertical component of the thrust is controlled by swiveling the exhaust nozzles. The FRS.1 version was the original production form, while the FA2 came about through a later modernization with a new radar and a modified forward part of the fuselage. Depending on the version chosen, the model therefore calls for different parts and different masking of the canopy.

Spraying procedure

• First wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry in the air.
• Place the mask dry, check the fit against the frame and only then press it down.
• First spray the edge of the mask with the interior color and only then with the outer shade, so that anything seeping through is not visible.
• Spray perpendicular to the surface, as an angled coat pushes the paint under the edge of the mask.
• Keep the rest of the sheet with the unused masks, as it comes in useful for a repair or a respray.
