The basic set of self-adhesive cut masks for the model of the experimental jet airplane X-32 in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor parts of a model, but an aid for painting: the film makes sure the frames of the glazing are crisp and even without cutting tape by hand. The extended version of the same set carries the EXPERT designation.
Modern demonstrators have smooth, little broken-up surfaces and a uniform finish. On a surface like that every inaccuracy shows at once — there is no engraving and no panel lines to lead the eye elsewhere. The frame of the cockpit therefore becomes the main detail of the whole model, and it is worth having it accurate. A cut mask makes sure the line is of the same width all the way round and that the transition is crisp with no jagged edges.
Before you apply the mask, check that the glazing is free of fingerprints; on a smooth part a print is clearly apparent after spraying. Lay the paint on thinly and let it set between coats. Once the mask is off, look along the transition from the glazing to the fuselage at a sharp angle — if any unevenness is apparent, it can be leveled with very fine wet sandpaper and clear coated again. Keep the rest of the glazing covered throughout the work, so that it is not dusted by overspray.
The package contains masking film only. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery.
