An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Chinese ZTZ-99A main battle tank in 1:72 scale. The maker S-model supplies the set in its typical 1+1 format — the box holds two complete models, a decal sheet and instructions. The abbreviation MBT stands for main battle tank. The small scale makes it possible to build a complete group of vehicles without great demands on space in a display case.
The ZTZ-99A, also known as the Type 99A, is the most capable variant of the Chinese ZTZ-99 main battle tank, brought into service with the ground forces of the People's Liberation Army. Compared with the basic version it has a markedly reworked turret with modular composite protection supplemented by explosive reactive armor on the front, a more powerful powerplant and a modernized fire control system. The main armament is a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, supplemented by machine gun armament. A characteristic recognition feature is the angular turret with wedge-shaped frontal modules and large side skirts protecting the running gear.
Assemble and paint the running gear and the lower part of the hull before you fit the side skirts — once they are installed the tracks are hard to reach. Use liquid cement for plastic applied with a small brush for the joints. Spray the base with an airbrush over a thin primer; modern Chinese equipment commonly appears both in a single-color green finish and in digital multicolor camouflage — choose the particular scheme according to the decal sheet and your own subject. Lighten the edges and the step surfaces gently, put a dark wash in the pressings and suggest dust with pigments on the lower third of the vehicle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
