This item is not an aircraft kit but an Aires resin accessory set in 1:72 scale. It contains a finely cast Rolls-Royce Merlin Mk.22 engine with which the engine section of a plastic model of an aircraft powered by that engine can be fitted out. It lets you show the powerplant exposed with accurate structure. The set is meant for more experienced modelers.

The real subject

The Rolls-Royce Merlin was a British liquid-cooled V12 engine, one of the most significant aero engines of the Second World War. The Merlin Mk.22 variant was among the versions used in multi-engine types, heavy bombers among them. The engine was marked by reliability and a wide range of use.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue. The engine is usually painted in metallic and primer shades, and the wiring and plumbing are brought out with a wash and a dry brush. To show the engine, the cowling or the engine panels of the kit have to be reworked.
