About product

Eduard 1:72 3D printed cockpit for the Bf 109G-5 and G-6

The set replaces the simplified plastic interior from a kit with a 3D printed resin cockpit. In the small 1:72 scale that is a decisive difference: injected plastic runs into the physical limits of a mold here, while 3D printing can print thin frames, levers and instruments in one piece. The item is intended for a Bf 109 model in the G-5 and G-6 versions in 1:72 scale, and the maker is the Czech firm Eduard. The exact contents of the package and the number of parts are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging; before buying, check that the set fits the kit you are building.

The real subject

The Bf 109 was a German single-engine fighter, an all-metal low-wing monoplane with a liquid-cooled V engine. The G versions made up the most numerously built group of the type. The G-5 and G-6 variants are very close in design and were built alongside one another; the main difference between them lay in the equipment of the airframe, while the external arrangement and the inside of the cockpit are essentially the same on both, which is why one accessory set commonly covers both. The cockpit was narrow and had a one-piece fixed frame, so its inside is partly visible even when closed.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water or in alcohol so that uncured resin residue disappears. Cut the 3D print supports off with a fine-toothed saw and do not snap them; in 1:72 the parts are really tiny and break easily. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue; cement for plastic does not work on resin. Always test the cockpit dry before gluing the fuselage halves together, as some of the internal ribs usually have to be sanded away. Paint in stages and bring out the individual instruments with a dark wash, otherwise the detail is lost in a small scale.

Who the accessory is for

  • Modelers who are building the Bf 109G-5 or G-6 in 1:72 scale and want a detailed interior.
  • More experienced modelers: working with tiny resin parts calls for practice and good tools.
  • Builders of display models, where the cockpit is visible.
  • Those who take a small scale to the highest level of detail.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a set of interior parts that the modeler puts into a Bf 109 plastic kit in 1:72 scale bought earlier.

The set is intended for both versions, G-5 and G-6. Their cockpits hardly differ, which is why one set commonly covers them.

Usually yes: some of the internal ribs of the fuselage tend to have to be sanded away. Always test dry before gluing the halves together.

With super glue based on cyanoacrylate. Ordinary cement for plastic does not attack resin.
