The most conspicuous feature of the German night fighters was the large aerial array growing out of the nose. This item offers exactly such an array and is meant to supplement a part-built plastic kit, not to build an aircraft on its own. It relates to the D, E, F and G versions, which the night fighter units used at various stages of the war.
The FuG 202 radar was given the code name Lichtenstein BC and was the first airborne instrument of its kind in German service to be built in series. The FuG 212 that followed worked over a different range and widened the possibilities of interception. Both sets worked at long wavelengths, which meant large dipole aerials nicknamed the mattress. The operators paid for that gain with a noticeable loss of speed, yet night fighting could not get by without equipment of the kind.
The aerial array is the most fragile part of a finished model. Assemble it off the fuselage, on a surface with a grid drawn on it, so that you keep the spacing right. Transfer it to the model only after painting and let it cure properly. Then carry the finished model by its base, never by the nose. Anyone who has once snapped a dipole off an array knows why this piece of advice is worth following.
