A turned metal pitot tube for MiG-23 models in 1:72 scale from MASTER. According to the manufacturer it is intended for all variants except the MLD version.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for modelers, not an aircraft kit. The set replaces the plastic pitot tube with a turned metal part in 1:72 scale. In the designation the manufacturer states explicitly that the part covers all variants of the type except the MLD version, which had a different probe arrangement; that is key information for the choice, because a mix-up shows on the model.
The MiG-23 is a single-engine combat aircraft of Soviet design with a swing wing, taken into service at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. It appeared in a range of versions differing in equipment and in the shape of the nose, and it was widespread with many operators. The long forward probe is one of the features by which the individual versions are told apart.
Cut off the plastic part with a razor saw or a fine saw and level the surface. Drill the hole for the pin step by step with several diameters; the forward fuselage tends to be thin at that point and a coarse bit will tear it. A metal probe can be fitted without risk during the build, because it survives masking and sanding of the surrounding area, but it is safer to leave it until the end. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting; on a smooth turned surface the paint holds only over a primer meant for metal. Many modelers leave the probe in bare metal and merely darken it chemically, which looks natural.
This is an accessory for modelers. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
