The Mistel 1 conversion set – version 2, 1:72 is a resin kit accessory from Aires for building the German composite strike combination of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
This resin conversion set makes it possible to rebuild plastic kits into the German Mistel 1 composite combination in 1:72 scale. It is not a complete model, but a demanding set of parts for experienced modelers to add to the base kits of both aircraft. The set brings the parts and the connecting structure needed to assemble the arrangement of the carried fighter above the unmanned carrier.
The Mistel was a German composite strike combination from the end of the Second World War. In the Mistel 1 version the lower, unmanned part was a converted Junkers Ju 88 bomber filled with explosive, while a Messerschmitt Bf 109 control fighter rode on top. The pilot guided the combination to the target, the pair separated just short of it and the Ju 88 carried on as a giant guided bomb. It was an attempt to strike well-defended strategic targets.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and rid them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue and dry-fit the connecting struts first so that the arrangement sits properly. Given the weight of resin, take care that the supporting structure is glued firmly and accurately.
The conversion set is supplied unassembled and unpainted as resin parts. The base kits, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
