Masking stencils for the tandem canopy of the Mitsubishi T-2 training aircraft in 1:72 scale match the early production form of the machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi T-2 was an advanced training aircraft and at the same time the first airplane designed in Japan to exceed the speed of sound. A pair of engines built under license gave it a performance comparable with the combat types of the day, so pilots moved on it directly from training to operational service. Series production ran from the middle of the 1970s.
Besides the school units, the type became famous in the colors of the national aerobatic team, which flew it through the whole of the 1980s and part of the 1990s. Those displays precisely gave rise to the conspicuous white and blue finishes that modelers often reach for. The early machines differ from the later ones in small details on the fuselage and in the instrument equipment, which the form of the clear parts matches as well.
The long two-piece cover above both seats has prominent longitudinal edges and a transverse frame whose cutting out of tape tends to be a nightmare. Ready-made stencils settle it at one attempt. Work from the back forward, press each piece down after laying it on and let it settle for a few minutes. With pronounced white finishes, spray thinner coats and rather more often, so that the edge stays sharp and the frame keeps its right width.
