This photo-etched set from the Czech maker Brengun is intended for completing a plastic kit of the Japanese Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka in the model 22 version in 1:72 scale. The package holds photo-etched sheets with fine parts that an injection mold cannot render. The kit, glue and paints are not part of it.
The Ohka model 22 is a small machine even in reality, so in 1:72 scale the model comes out small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. On an object that small, though, every detail is all the more visible: the instrument panel, the seat, the seat belts and the small rods make up most of what can be seen of the cockpit. Injected plastic always has too great a thickness and soft edges for these features. Photo-etched metal under two tenths of a millimeter gives the same parts the delicacy the scale calls for, and looking into the cockpit the difference is immediately apparent.
Work over a surface with a raised edge, as small parts like to ping away. Cut them out with a scalpel, not with nippers. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades; on parts with several bends, think the order through in advance, or you will not be able to reach the last one. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and coat it with primer: without one, paint will not hold on smooth photo-etched metal. It is bonded with super glue, ideally applied with a pin rather than straight from the tube. Seat belts are bent over a round tool before fitting so that they look loosely draped.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The model, glue, paints and any other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
