About product

Rob Taurus 1:72 N1K1-Ja — a vacuum-formed canopy

This is a standalone accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The set from the Czech maker Rob Taurus contains a vacuum-formed clear canopy in 1:72 scale for the N1K1-Ja fighter. It replaces the plastic canopy from the base kit, being thinner, cleaner in shape and more transparent.

The real subject

The Kawanishi N1K1-J Shiden was a Japanese fighter of the Second World War, derived from a floatplane. The N1K1-Ja variant carried strengthened cannon armament. The aircraft was among the capable late Japanese fighters.

Usage tips

Cut the canopy carefully out of its backing film, sand the edges down and, for maximum transparency, dip it in a clear gloss varnish. Mask the frames with narrow tape. The thin material also makes it possible to assemble the cockpit in the open position.

Who it is for

  • Modelers building the N1K1-Ja in 1:72 scale
  • Anyone after better transparency and shape for the glazing
  • Those who want an exposed cockpit with a view of the interior
  • More advanced builders used to vacuum-formed parts

The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
