Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale captures the Nakajima J1N1-S, a Japanese twin-engine night fighter of the end of the Second World War (Allied code name Irving). The release comes from Hobby 2000, who repackage a proven injection mold and add quality decals (Cartograf) to it. The package thus combines an established plastic kit with a new, well-reproduced decal sheet.
The J1N came about originally as a long-range escort and reconnaissance machine, but it made its name above all in the night fighter version, the J1N1-S Gekko. That version was armed with 20 mm cannons angled upwards, with which it attacked Allied bombers from below. The twin-engine layout gave the machine the range and the endurance needed for night patrols over the Japanese islands and the South Pacific.
The kit has recessed panel lines, which come out nicely after a wash. Paint and assemble the cockpit and the interior before closing up the fuselage; the glazing over the crew area is extensive, so it pays to mask the frames with tape. Use liquid cement for polystyrene on the plastic, unify the surface with a primer and lay down the dark green upper finish with an airbrush, with some shading. Let the quality decals dry and seal them with a matte clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
