This is a set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale, not a vehicle kit. HäT has long devoted itself to historical figure sets in precisely this scale, so the figures combine well with other sets of the same size and with terrain and building models in 1:72 and 1:76. The subject is British heavy dragoons of the Napoleonic period; dragoons belonged to the cavalry, so the set falls among cavalry subjects.
Figures in 1:72 scale are supplied on sprues and the casting is as fine as a small scale allows. Separate the parts with a sharp knife or plastic shears, not by twisting — thin sections such as sabers and bridles are easily damaged. Go over the parting seams along the arms, the legs and the horses' flanks with a flat pass of the scalpel and sand them only lightly. If the plastic is a soft type, neither ordinary cement for plastic nor paint holds well on it; in that case reach for cyanoacrylate glue and above all for a good primer, which will give the paint adhesion. Before painting, rinse the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out properly.
In 1:72 scale it pays to work with contrast more than with detail. After the primer, lay down the base shades of the uniform, the horse's coat and the equipment, then go over the whole figure with a darker pooling, which runs into the folds and draws out the shape. With a lighter tone, pick out the edges, the shoulders and the horses' backs dry. Finish small things such as the straps or the metal parts with a fine brush at the end. Keep the faces simple: a base flesh tone and one darker pooling are amply enough, as an excess of detail at this size does more harm than good. Unify the finished figures with a matte varnish, which also protects the finish against abrasion during handling.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
