North American P-51D-5 Mustang, 357th FG 1:72 is a decal set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard devoted to the aircraft of one of the American fighter groups of the Second World War.

This is not an aircraft model but a standalone set of decals for a kit in 1:72 scale that you already own. It focuses on the markings of the aircraft of the 357th Fighter Group of the US Army Air Forces, that is on the unit markings and individual codes that turn an anonymous model into a particular aircraft. The number of schemes and the sheets the set contains are stated on the packaging.
The North American P-51D was a single-engine, single-seat fighter with a teardrop canopy and excellent endurance, thanks to which it could escort bomber formations over long distances. The P-51D-5 block belonged to the first batches with the new canopy; some aircraft of this batch did not yet have the additional dorsal fin fillet ahead of the vertical tail, which was added later. The aircraft of the American fighter groups in Europe carried prominent colored identification markings on the nose and tail surfaces.
Decals belong on a smooth, glossy and clean base - a matte varnish is the most common cause of whitened edges. So before applying them, varnish the area with a gloss varnish compatible with your paint. Soak the decal briefly, slide it off the paper with a soft brush and draw off the excess water with absorbent paper. On large areas and over engraved detail use a softener in several thin doses. Once dry, varnish the model with a matte or satin coat so that the gloss layer and the edges of the film disappear.
The set is supplied as decals. Paints, varnishes and the basic kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
