Vacuum-formed canopy P-47D Razorback / Malcolm 1:72 (Rob Taurus) is a clear replacement canopy for the razorback version of the Thunderbolt, including the bulged Malcolm hood.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory, not a model, for aircraft models of the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in the razorback version in 1:72 scale. The canopy is drawn from thin clear film by the vacuum process, so it has thinner walls and higher clarity than the injection-molded part from the box. A variant with the bulged Malcolm sliding hood, which improved the view to the sides, is included as well. The package usually holds several pieces.
The early P-47Ds had a raised rear fuselage behind the pilot, hence the razorback name, and a framed canopy with a poorer view to the rear. Some of the aircraft were therefore given the bulged Malcolm sliding hood, also known from the Mustangs, which markedly improved the view before the fully bubble-canopied versions came in. The Thunderbolt served both as a fighter and as a fighter-bomber.
Cut the canopy out with a sharp scalpel close to the outline and sand the edges down finely. For maximum gloss the part can be dipped in a gloss varnish. It is glued with clear PVA glue, or very carefully with cyanoacrylate, so that the fumes do not dull the plastic. The frames are masked and sprayed at the end.
This is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
