An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter from Academy in 1:72 scale. It is the late version with the bubble canopy (Bubble Top), which gave the pilot a better view to the rear. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; it has finely engraved panel detail. For the exact contents of the package, go by the enclosed instructions.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the largest and heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a massive radial engine with a turbocharger and was armed with eight machine guns in the wings. It stood out for its toughness, range and load of bombs and rockets, so it proved itself both escorting bombers and, above all, as a feared ground-attack machine. The bubble canopy version was the peak of its development.
First finish and spray the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Mask and paint the bubble glazing separately - on this version a great deal of it is visible. Base over a primer; bare metal areas not covered by camouflage benefit from a smooth surface and a metallic finish applied last. A panel wash brings out the engraving and worn metal on the leading edges adds to the realism.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
