1:72 P-51B/C Mustang Exhausts detail set is a small accessory set of exhausts from Art Scale that replaces the plastic parts with a sharper and more convincing shape. The exhausts are shaped for the Arma Hobby kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
On fighter models the exhausts are among the parts that are seen close up and are at the same time hard to make in injection-molded plastic. The openings tend to be blanked off and the edges thick, because the mold allows nothing else. This accessory set from Art Scale replaces them with parts with thin walls and open mouths, which on a model in 1:72 scale is an unexpectedly noticeable difference. It is not an aircraft model but a small accessory for a kit.
The set is cut for the Arma Hobby kit in 1:72 scale. Before buying, therefore, check that it matches the model you are actually building. The fitting is short: the parts are separated from the carrier, cleaned up, placed where the original plastic exhausts were and glued. Most of the work is then in the painting.
Separate the parts with a saw or a sharp cutter, not with nippers, so that the thin walls do not break. They are bonded with super glue, dosed in the smallest possible amount, ideally with a toothpick. Apply a primer before painting. The exhausts are painted with a dark metallic base, over which rusty and grayish tones are laid down dry, because real exhaust stacks discolor unevenly in service. A faint shadow of a smoke trail belongs on the fuselage behind the exhausts, sprayed with heavily thinned paint.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The aircraft model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
