About product

P-61C interior 1:72 — a color Eduard photo-etched set

A photo-etched interior set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:72 scale for the Northrop P-61C night fighter. It is not an aircraft kit but an aftermarket accessory intended to be fitted into a plastic model. The set brings color-printed parts in stainless steel sheet: the instrument panels, the side consoles, the seatbelts and small cockpit fittings. At a small scale injection-molded plastic can only suggest these items very crudely, while printed photo-etch offers legible instruments without a single stroke of a brush.

The real subject

The Northrop P-61 Black Widow was the first American aircraft designed from the outset as a night fighter with its own airborne radar. The twin-boom layout with a central crew nacelle and two radial engines was unusually large for its day. The P-61C version was given more powerful engines with turbochargers and better performance at high altitude, but it appeared only at the very end of the war. The crew consisted of the pilot, the radar operator and, depending on the task, a third member as well, so the interior is complex and worth working on carefully.

Fitting tips

Finish the interior before gluing the fuselage halves together, otherwise it is no longer accessible. Sand the molded plastic instruments under the photo-etch smooth. The parts in 1:72 scale are small, so work with tweezers over a tray so that they are not lost. Do not paint over the color-printed parts and do not clean them with solvent. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a toothpick, and for the smallest parts a drop of gloss varnish is enough. It is worth finishing the cockpit with a light wash on the surrounding plastic, which deepens the shadows.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the P-61 in 1:72 scale with a detailed interior
  • Builders who do not want to paint tiny instruments by hand
  • Anyone interested in American aircraft of the Second World War
  • More experienced modelers used to small photo-etched parts

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. This is an add-on photo-etched set for the interior; the plastic kit has to be bought separately.

The color-printed parts, no. You only apply paint to the surrounding plastic parts of the cockpit.

Right at the start of the build, before the fuselage halves are glued together.

They are small, but with tweezers, a scalpel and good light it is ordinary work with photo-etch.
