A terrain base with an imposing building. Ornate architecture tends to be a rarer guest in a diorama than ordinary buildings, and for exactly that reason it catches the eye. The contradiction between a grand structure and hardware standing in front of it is among the strongest compositions there are.
An imposing building always carries some meaning. If you place a model in front of it, a tension arises between two worlds that do not belong together. But the scene works just as well on its own as an architectural display with a figure in the foreground, entirely without any further context.
Ornate faces have many edges and hollows, which is an advantage for a modeler. A light base completed with a thin dark solution will do most of the work by itself, because the solution runs into the shadows and the relief steps forward. You tune it with a dry brush a shade lighter than the base, drawn across the standing profiles. Do not overdo it, as an excess of contrast will turn a stone facade into a plaster casting.
Imposing structures tend to be in sand, ocher or whitened tones. Choose one and hold to it, as a facade of various colors will shatter the display. Supply the age by soiling in the lower part rather than by a change of shade.
This item does not hold a model of your own, figures or paints.
