Markings in 1:72 scale from Star Decals. It follows on from the first Baltic sheet, but this time it is tied to the older versions of the Panther tank. According to the name it covers the units SS-Nordland, GD and 5. Pz.Div. in the years 1944 and 1945.
With the Panther the Ausf D version came out first, only after it followed the Ausf A and finally the Ausf G. The letter therefore does not give the order in production and during a build it pays to watch what each designation means. You will recognize the Ausf D by the flat side wall of the turret and the different solution of the commander's cupola; the Ausf A brought a reworked cupola and a machine gun port in the frontal armor of the hull.
The sides of the Panther's turret are smooth and markings stand out on them, but on the sloped frontal armor a decal has to be run parallel to the edge, otherwise the optical illusion will emphasize any rotation. Degrease the area before application, seat the decal on a thin layer of water and fine-tune the position with a soft brush before the adhesive catches. Check the horizontal axis against the lower edge of the turret, not by eye, which is easily fooled in a small scale.
