R4M rockets for the Fw 190D 1:72 from IBG is a 3D printed set of underwing armament for the kits of the Fw 190D series. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for one.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not an aircraft model. It contains 3D printed unguided R4M rockets for the kits of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D series from IBG in 1:72 scale. Printing is a great advantage with this armament: the stabilizing fins of the rockets are extremely thin in 1:72 and in injection-molded plastic they can only be done in a coarser form, or as photo-etched parts that have to be laboriously bent.
The R4M was a German unguided air-to-air rocket from the end of the Second World War, designed to attack formations of heavy bombers. It was fired in a salvo from simple underwing rails, so the spread of the projectiles made up for precision and a fighter could attack from a greater distance than the defensive machine guns of a bomber could reach. It is best known for its use on jet machines, but installations on piston fighters were worked on as well in the closing stage of the war. The Fw 190D came about by converting the proven Fw 190 series to the Junkers Jumo 213 inverted V12 engine, and with its lengthened nose it was among the highest-performing German piston fighters.
Separate the rockets from the print supports carefully with a sharp scalpel and work over a mat, so that the small parts do not get lost. Degrease the surfaces and glue with super glue. It is best to paint them while still on the support frame or pinned onto a stick, and only then to fit them under the wing. Measure the external stores out according to the assembly instructions of the kit, so that they sit symmetrically.
