A model of the French light tank Renault R35 in 1:72 scale. The vehicle is small in reality too, so the model takes up a minimum of space in a display case and other hardware of the same scale goes well beside it.
The R35 came about as a replacement for the worn-out machines of the First World War, and the French army assigned it to infantry units. It carried a one-man APX-R turret, which it shared with other French types of the day, and in it a short gun of 37 mm caliber with a coaxial machine gun. The commander in such a turret did everything at once, which cost precious seconds in action. The armor of around forty millimeters was decent for its day, but the speed of around twenty kilometers per hour condemned the machine to the pace of the infantry.
The R35 reached other armies as well, and after 1940 a number of captured vehicles remained in German hands, where they served for patrol duty, for training and as a chassis for conversions. Modelers therefore have more to choose from than just the French finish.
Dry-fit the parts before gluing and fill the seams on the hull. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest down; wash and degrease the model before painting. Choose the color scheme and the markings according to the particular machine and army. Paints, glue and other modeling supplies are not included, unless stated otherwise.
