This is grass foliage, that is a scenic material with which growth is made on a diorama or a layout. The name sets the shade: olive green is muted and grayed, closer to dry summer grass and to unkept areas than to a bright spring green. For that very reason it suits military views and the edges of roads, where a fresh green would look out of place.
First unify the base with a darker earthy color, so that no light board shows through the growth. The way of applying it differs by the form, which is given on the packaging: a loose material is spread into a layer of glue and the excess is sucked off once dry, while a continuous mat is laid down whole and pressed on. In both cases it holds that it pays off to work in parts and not to make an area uniform.
A single shade over a whole area gives a model away at first glance. Interleave the olive green with a darker and a lighter tone, spread in a little fine stone and, in the places where grass would grow most, add taller clumps. Leave the trodden bands along roads thinner and lower. Paints, glue and a base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
