This is a masking set from the Czech maker Eduard, not an aircraft kit. The package contains pre-cut masks for a model of the Republic P-43 Lancer fighter in 1:72 scale. Eduard is among the established brands in this segment and its masking sets are popular with modelers above all for their accurate cutting and easy removal.
The masks are applied to the clear parts before spraying. They cover the glass and leave only the canopy frames exposed, which are then painted together with the fuselage, so that the edge between the frame and the glass comes out sharp. Cutting tape to the shape of the canopy by hand is not only slow in a small scale but above all inaccurate: a single crooked cut shows on the finished model. A pre-cut set solves that.
Before applying the masks, wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, so that no greasy film is left on them. Lift the mask with tweezers, seat it and press it down with a toothpick all the way around. Lay the first coat down thinly in the interior shade or in primer; it seals the edge of the mask and any bleed will then not show. Apply the paint in several thin coats perpendicular to the edge of the mask, not at an angle under it. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried and before varnishing. Before buying, check that the set matches the P-43 Lancer kit you are building: the shape of the canopy differs between the molds of different makers.
