A plastic kit of the French Salmson 2A2 reconnaissance biplane of the First World War in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Salmson 2A2 was a French reconnaissance and observation biplane of the end of the First World War. The crew was two men: the pilot and, behind him, an observer at a flexible machine gun with a clear field of view to the sides and to the rear. A peculiarity of the aircraft was its liquid-cooled radial engine, a combination that appeared only rarely on aircraft of the day. The type served in large numbers with French units and with American crews on the Western Front, and it was still flown for a number of years after the war.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale. The parts are on sprues, along with a decal sheet and instructions with painting schemes. The package appears under the designation Silver Wings; the particular aircraft, their finishes and their markings are given in the instructions.
A biplane is built differently from an all-metal fighter. Finish and paint the cockpit first, only then join the fuselage, and fit the upper wing once the struts are in place. Try the struts dry and glue them one at a time, while the assembly can still be trued up. The fabric-covered surfaces carry a fine rib structure, so lay the paint on in thin coats to keep the relief from being flooded. Add the rigging of stretched thread at the very end, once you will no longer be handling the model.
The set will please builders of First World War aircraft and collectors of French machines in 1:72 scale. Building a biplane with struts and rigging calls for patience, so it is not the thing as a very first model. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
