About product

What kind of base it is

A plate of acrylic 3 mm thick measuring 280 x 180 mm and weighing 170 g, with a colored motif of the deck of the aircraft carrier Saratoga CV-3 as she was in 1943. The 1:72 scale means that the surface of the plate corresponds to roughly twenty meters in length and thirteen in width of the real deck. A model therefore stands on a section of it rather than on the whole ship, and that is exactly the point: the framing is as tight as it is in a period photograph.

Why stand a model on a base

A finished model on a bare shelf hangs in the air without a context. A plate with a deck gives it a setting and a story without your having to build a diorama: a background with the right drawing is added, the model gets a firm place and the whole thing can be carried anywhere. The hard plate also protects the underside of the model and comes in handy for photography, because the surface is flat and free of the creases that would spoil a shot.

How to handle it

Acrylic is hard but sensitive to scratches, so put the base down on something soft and clean it with a soft cloth, not with a paper towel. Strong solvents do not belong on the surface, as they can damage the motif. The model does not have to be glued to the plate; if you do want to fix it permanently, try the glue first at the edge, where it does not show.

It does not. If you want to fix it permanently, try the glue first at the edge of the plate, where it does not show.

With a soft cloth. Acrylic scratches easily and strong solvents can damage the motif.

There is not. The base alone is supplied; the model, the figures and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
