Sherman V with 60 lb aircraft rockets - a plastic kit of the British version of the Sherman tank with improvised rocket armament in 1:72 scale from the maker UM.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures one of the most interesting field conversions of the Sherman tank. The compact 1:72 scale makes it possible to build a striking machine even in a small space and to slot it easily into a collection of Allied vehicles.
Sherman V was the British designation for the American version of the Sherman tank with a multibank engine and a 75 mm gun. In the spring of 1945 some British units added rail launchers with unguided aircraft rockets with a warhead weighing 60 pounds, known from ground-attack aircraft, to their tanks. Machines converted in this way, nicknamed Tulips, could deliver a crushing blow with a salvo of rockets and a marked psychological effect, although the accuracy of the fire was limited. It was a typical improvisation of the closing stage of the war, which today is one of the rewarding subjects for collectors of oddities.
Finish the running gear and the tracks before closing the hull up, and paint the rockets and their launchers separately and fit them only at the end. Spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin layers; the details will be brought to life by a dark wash in the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and fine dust pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
