This item is not an aircraft model but a kit of a standalone aerial bomb in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Amodel. It follows on from its range of models of Soviet nuclear bombs, which are used in collections as an accompaniment to bomber models or as a standalone exhibit on a base. The material of the parts, their number and the presence of a transport trolley or a base are given on the box.
The RDS-2 belonged to the first generation of Soviet nuclear weapons developed at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s. It was an implosion design detonated during a test at the beginning of the 1950s. The bomb took the form of a large aerial body with an aerodynamic casing and tail surfaces so that it could be carried in the bomb bay of the heavy bombers of the time. For the modeler it is a subject with a simple shape, where what decides the result is a clean surface and precise seating of the fins.
On a body of revolution every unevenness shows, so devote the bulk of your time to filling and sanding the lengthwise seam. Work through several grits and polish the surface at the end, otherwise the scratches will show through the gloss coat. Glue the fins using a jig or a square so that they sit symmetrically. Apply primer before painting, which will at the same time reveal any remaining flaws. Large smooth areas are ideal for spraying with an airbrush; a brush is hard to hide on them. The model looks good on a simple base with a label.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
